Yes, as a matter of fact, I am working part of Christmas
Day. And while mentioning that, I hope everyone
has a safe and happy holiday.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS:
It
is with much frustration and dismay that I cease any
international shipments of rifle stocks or other large
rifle components. This will be effective January
1, 2011.
Due to intense regulation expansion and government
intrusion into many facets of our business, it has
become necessary to stop direct shipments to our friends
and customers outside the United States. For now,
U.S. states of Alaska and Hawaii will not be effected.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, along with our own
Census Bureau (how silly is that?) are requiring strict
adherence to all I.T.A.R. (International Traffic
in Arms Regulations) rules as set forth by our own
Department of State. Licensing and fees are
prohibitively expensive and time consuming so this it is
not a viable business option for KMW at this time.
Effective January 1, 2011, I will ask all international
customers to provide coordination with a registered
exporter that I can ship to or provide a physical U.S.
address that I can ship to.
I
appreciate all of my international customers and very
much regret having to take this action.

All new KMW rifles will now include
Robar's NP3 coating on
the bolt body, firing pin and cocking piece.
Specific batches of rifles destined for tropical or
coastal duty may have additional parts also included in
this process.

This coating is an excellent all weather protection with
added lubricity. As this finish wears, the base
nickel and PTFE layer is retained offering continued
protection. Appearance is a matte bronze type
color.

All new production SENTINEL stocks will include an
upgrade that allows the use of Harris type bipods as
well as bipods needing a Picatinny 1913 Rail.
This convertible bipod station was developed and refined
for the M.A.C.S. project and worked so well that I
decided it should become standard on the SENTINEL Combat
Stocks.

The convertible plates can be switched by removing two
T-25 Torx drive fasteners and re-installing. Both
methods continue to follow one of the original design
intents of this stock which is low profile bipod
attachement with the apex of the bipod legs as close as
possible to the barrel axis.

M.A.C.S. is coming along. Most major design
elements are complete and tested, however there are
several tweaks that need to be done prior to putting
this product into general circulation. So as not
to have it categorized in the same company as Big Foot,
The Loch Ness Monster and the President's place of
birth, I have included some images from some of the BETA
tests and proto-types.
During testing of the I.M.B. for repeatability and accuracy during repeated removal of the barreled action from the stock. Purpose built hinge system being tested. Side profile of hinge and cheek piece release being evaluated. Side profile of test stock w/o MUNS.T.E.R. night vision mount.

I have posted 1
rifle for sale in the
RIFLES for SALE

build that I will do.
This is a new rifle and is on a totally remachined
Remington M700 action.

We finally made
time to take some detail images of some of the installed
I.M.B. (Integrated Mounting Block).

Detail of front pillar of I.M.B.
Top shot of short action I.M.B. installed in a SENTINEL Combat Stock. This view shows how much surface to surface contact is available to the host action.
The KMW I.M.B. will also accomodate most known recoil lugs on the market. This view shows the bolt handle cut of the I.M.B. and illustrates the full curve contact with the action. This view shows the rear tang and safety area of the I.M.B. Full protection of the safety and massive support of the rear of the action can be seen from this angle. The I.M.B. features a rear pillar that exactly sets the Z-axis distance between the action and DBM system. The I.M.B. also has a front structure feature that acts as a front pillar to perfectly set the Z-axis distance between the DBM system and the action. This view illustrates how the I.M.B. extends and supports all the way up to the top waterline of the stock.

Developed for the M.A.C.S. project,
this system is working so well that I am bringing it
into the SENTINEL stocks as an option.
Round Long
Action, Badger M2008 Short and Magnum Action and Surgeon
XL-CIP versions are coming on line during the year.
Pricing and availability will be posted as soon as we
determine our costs and labor for the install.
At this time, the
KMW I.M.B. is only being developed for the SENTINEL and
M.A.C.S. Variants compatible with other composite
stocks will be developed as time permits.

We received the first test run of hinge systems for
the M.A.C.S. project. They look good and I will start on the
fixtures needed to install them. I
hope to have some installed and ready to test in the next few weeks.
Photos and updates to the M.A.C.S. page will be added at that time.
March 30, 2010
One of the first live, away from home tests of the
Integrated Mounting Block was completed this month at the 2010 Snipers
Hide Cup at Rifles Only. I took a stock we have been testing with
my personal rifle bolted in so that I could get some realistic field use
and feedback. After each day of shooting, the rifle was removed
from the stock and then remounted to test for zero shift or other
problems.
After 3 days of this, we found the Integrated Mounting
Block to be very consistent and allowed my barreled action to be at
least as accurate as when mounted into its normal pillar bedded stock.
No zero shift occurred and groups remained consistently small.
Last rifle shot of the competition was at a 1" dot from prone at 100yds.
My shot impacted center of the dot with the same scope zero/P.O.A/P.O.I.
that I started with 2 days earlier.
This is our answer to a "no bedding" system that some
contracts will require. While this Mounting Block was developed
for the M.A.C.S. project, it and several other features are working out
so well that I will be rolling them into the SENTINEL stock as options.
These features and integrated components will allow
this family of stocks to exhibit the same mission flexibility as most
"chassis" type stocks on the market but without the AR-15 grips and
aluminum skin contact suffered with their kind.
First production I.M.B.s will be in from anodizing
shortly. Mike at McMillan has already done an outstanding job on
the inletting program for this part. I will post some photos of
the first installs and completed rifles by June.
Little
things matter at a distance. . . . . . . .
